Agenda

 

Call to Order and Quorum Check

Chair Joyce Sinnott (JS) called the meeting to order at 6:37pm. In addition to Chair Sinnott, Gina-Marie Kajano (GK), Lily Dyer (LD), Jessica Colati (JC), Sandra Gibson-Quigley (SGQ) , Carol Mitchell (CM) Alice Kao (AK) and Library Director Becky Plimpton (BP) were present, meeting quorum. Melissa and Elisa are not here.

 

Slate motion made for the Board, Alice seconded and all in favor.

 

Review and Acceptance of Previous Meeting Minutes

Joyce makes a motion to approve the minutes and Carrol approves. All in favor.

 

Library Director’s Report

 

Building issues  Low Bid $1.17 Million; Robins will look for ARPA $ 90,000

  • HVAC bid hopefully will be awarded at the May 15 Selectboard meeting
    • 1.2 Million budgeted
    • Need about $90,000. APRA funds will cover the remaining balance
  • We have termites in the front of the building – we will be starting a plan with the pest control company
    • Will be covered with Building Maintenance funds
  • Trees will be planted in the front of the library where the other ones had been removed because of the leaking pipe. In addition, mulch will be put down soon. Sandra makes a motion to use $522 from Shumacher fund to landscaping in case it is not covered by the Operating Budget.
    • Senior center added an extra flower bucket
    • Hours fixed on the sign!
  • Becky installed new “people counters”, this is one of the statistics required on the ARIS
  • RFID is not the best fit for our Library

 

Programs

  • Upcoming Programs: Virtual – Susan Tran, May 15; Community Puzzle Swap, May 16; Kids in the Congo: Child Labor and the Cobalt Mines, May 24; Pamela Means: The Power of the Protest Song, June 7; Virtual – Dishing Out Drag with Giganta Smalls, June 10; Book Discussion Breakfast, June 14
    • If you receive any concern messages about upcoming events, forward them to Joyce
  • Friends events: Sci-Fi book sale, May 4. Made $244 only Science Fiction
    • Will also partner with the Plant Sale May 20th 9:00-12:00

 

Other issues/activities

  • Planning to have a few speakers for Town Meeting speakers in case of questions or concerns for the budget
  • Town Meeting is Monday June 5th at 7:00. Attend if you can
  • Volunteer Appreciation Night
    • Friends and Trustees working together to appreciate all the hard work. Will wait on more information from The Friends. Gina will talk to Sawdust about hosting this event.

Budget status

  • 48% left in Building budget

 

Chairperson’s Report

  • State sent an email about our aid for the upcoming year
  • Joyce and Becky talked about open Trustee positions coming up
  • EOY Annual Review coming up for Becky at the next meeting, June 1, 2023.
    • Goals from 2022 in the Google Drive
  • For August, read the Strategic Plan 2018 in Drive

  • None

 

New Business: Other topic(s) not reasonably anticipated by the Chair

 

  • Sandra shared the Friends of Alice award from MFOL is something that we should look into and nominate for our Friends to recognize their hard work and dedication.
  • We will not meet in July but will meet August 3rd

 

Motion to adjourn by Jessica at 8:00pm, seconded by Sandra. All approved. Next meeting June 1, 2023
